For her 10 year anniversary, Barbara I Gongini teamed up with Olympus to celebrate her trailblazing success in the avant-garde fashion segment; the danish fashion house is still lead by the same woman who grew up in the dark and mysterious Faraoe Islands.

During Copenhagen Fashion Week SS16, a slim selection of international press were invited to a delicate and intimate talk where Barbara and her team of associates were given the opportunity to express opinions and thoughts around the brand and its current affairs. Along with the sartorial debate, Barbara showcased some of her most memorable pieces as an exhibition where the guests were also able to record private conversations with Barbara and her team.

Barbara I Gongini’s favourite band, The Magnetic Eagle, performed an organic symphony of familiar sounds and noises, making heart throbbing music while Danish Royal Ballet dancer, Marcin Kupinski, danced his way through the big and empty LAB Studios in Copenhagen. The dancer portrayed so much of the Gongini brand; layering clothes, taking them off, challenging common

norms of modernised dress and movement, feasting our eyes to a truly deep and moving experience where fashion, photography, contemporary dance, music and debate came together in that unique sense unity and omnipresent use of the colour black which the Gongini brand is so well known for.

Looking briefly at Barbara I Gongini’s designs, it may seem like one dark wave of fabric caressing the body, but looking at the details, Barbara portrays a great deal of romance, joy and optimism, providing asphalte èlègance and representing the outcast; the black sheep, the one who stands alone. In the fundamental aspect of sub cultures, like avant-garde, lies a great deal of unity. Something often seen in her shows in her way of portraying a sexuality that is gender neutral, but always promoting individualism.

In the globalised landscape of Scandinavian design, minimalism and simplicity are words that come up often. Gongini is among few Scandinavian designers who has broken the social norm and expectation of Scandinavian design culture and continues to hit the international market with admirable force and determination.

For this editorial I wanted to combine the idea of a silent, alone feminine character with the raw and hostile Icelandic nature. I wanted the story to feel real – no awkward poses and no crazy make up, just a girl alone in the nature. The styling was planned in advance, but everything else we made up as moved around and made the images. I didn’t want the shoot to be visualized in advance, I wanted it to be a natural process driven by where we were and what we saw.

Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky (…)

–Gabrielle Coco Chanel

When Captain Lagerfeld pilots a fashion show, we know we are in for a ride. An airport is a well-known environment for the frequent travellers who were invited, but who would think twice about a ticket with Chanel Airlines?

In Aéroport Paris Cambon, we were spectators to a collection with sporty, yet glamorous, references. Through Gate n°5, jet-setters entered, dressed comfortable in denim, knits with airplane patterns, caped skirts wrapped on top of pants, and the elegant skirt suit in tweed we all know. Skipping through Terminal 2C with LED sandals and Coco carry-ons, models were styled with double ponytails, mirror aviator sunglasses, and sporting caps flipped backwards. The boater hat was presented in tweed (for the more sophisticated traveler) floating through the room, taking their time at the check-in counter, making us reminisce of a time when traveling was a chance to wear your finest garments. Indeed a glamorous voyage, with metallic fabrics and sparkly tops appearing on the last passengers strutting through the terminal.

The scenography of most recent Chanel shows tend to reflect current topics, and this day’s presentation didn’t break that rule. Namely, what is more relevant in fashion these days than travel? And what is more linked to travel than globalisation?

It is a worldwide industry, with trends travelling across the globe in a few hours through digital media. Chanel’s core customers are no longer dominated by the Parisian elite. From Seoul to Shanghai, and Dubai to Dallas, Chanel dresses wealthy women across the globe. Significantly, the collections are influenced by dress-codes from opposite parts of the world, and SS16 is no exception. Ironically, while the show was unfolding, a famous French airline – which may have been a source of inspiration for some of the SS16 looks – was going through violent riots just a few kilometers away, caused by the consequences of globalisation.

Chanel SS16 staged a familiar culture reference – embracing the luxury of travel – which may also act as a reminder that big fashion houses present an ever-changing fantasy world, out of reach for most mortals, yet so desirable that we all want to check in and get aboard.

In this story with Anne Christine we are mixing up scenes from the streets of Copenhagen in the low hanging fall sun with simpel settings in my studio. I like to keep my shoots as simpel as possible and shooting in daylight is as simpel as it gets. We are playing with a boyish look, big jackets and knit. Anne Christine looks fantastic and so feminine despite wearing quite masculine clothes.

Momentary Bliss

Photography by Stefan Dotter
Stefan Dotter’s work centers around the exploration of shapes and forms around the female body and their symbiosis with nature on one hand and contemporary art on the other. His cultural awareness coming from shooting for several major designers like Saint Laurent, Givenchy and Jacquemus as well as his work as the Editor-in-Chief of WhiteLies Magazine is a quintessential ingredient in his photographs, along with a unique aesthetic and natural ideals.

Late October, Stefan in a collaboration with SVA Magazine, exhibited some of his familiar work along with some of the best hidden treasures from his private photography collection. Complementing and defining the collection of photography, we present the series ‘Momentary Bliss’.

Samsøe & Samsøe’s lookbook for Spring/Summer 2016 is inspired by the uncomplicated beauty of classic Danish furniture design. Graphic lines work alongside casual softness. High and low lengths create modern silhouettes while subtle textures and quiet details ensure a formal yet easy mood that suits the season.

– A democratic ideal, approachable and graceful.
A feeling of belonging; a feeling of home.

With a focus on odd poses and angles, the setting is kept clean and minimalistic. This is also reflected in the styling, that mainly features Scandinavian fashion and simple silhouettes. With this editorial we aim to show the beauty of simplicity in a awkward and less posed way.

Craig Green x Bjørn Borg

London based designer and Central St. Martins scholar, Craig Green has teamed up with Bjørn Borg on a capsule collection for Autumn/Winter 2016. The collection is athletic in the true Bjørn Borg aesthetic, whilst remaining true to Craig Green’s innovative and complex identity.

“The Craig Green x Bjørn Borg collection marries my conceptual fascination with light and shadow, with the utilitarian beauty of Bjørn Borg’s heritage”.
– Craig Green

Craig Green has incorporated his well known use of shadows, sculpture and volume – while he continues to play with the concept of hiding and showing the body. The collections consists of 20 men’s, women’s and unisex garments and the colour palette is limited to off-white and black colours.

The idea is to have a multifunctional garment for both men and women that is not really gender-spesific. Functional components become a distinct design feature, and a bold logo is replaced by a single circle – a development of the whole motif I often explore, said Craig Green.

The collection will be available in selected stores from October 2016.

SVA AT OSLO RUNWAY AW16. After Sweden and Denmark, Norway was the last remaining Scandinavian country to preview the best of Autumn/Winter collections.

National and international press gathered at the Oslo Opera House to see the finest and latest selection of Norwegian design. The collections for autumn/winter were perfectly juxtapositioned with the arcitectural landscape of the Snøhetta drawn opera house. All the designers stayed true to the Norwegian aestetics and showcased a significant desire to put Norway on the fashion map. Veronica B. Vallnes showed thick wefts and painted animal print, whilst remaining true to her razor sharp lines and aestetics.

Elisabeth Stray Pedersen impressed with her vision; creating voluminous thick wools and blanket-like surfaces layered with fishnet trousers and embroidery.

Admir Batlak showed a fun and easy going collection in bright colours and motivational prints. His S/S collection clearly was an elevated version of his A/W collection, opting for light fabrics and sleek lines.

F5 Agency showed a collective runway show consisting of Arct, Christina Ledang, Aùma and GRAA. The show presented all collections with their signature youthful streetwear aestetics, with utilitarian influences. While being shown as a whole, the collections clearly had their own individual identity, using familiar and unfamiliar fabrics to generate attention around the youthful Norwegian fashion-industry and its group of followers.

I really like it – I liked it last season as well and everyone dresses really cool. The last brand we saw this morning, Arct was so sick, better than many other brands I’ve seen. The collections are really good; it’s way better than what you would expect from a small fashion week and I’m looking forward to coming back next season.
